10 REASONS WHY DIABETES IS RISING AMONG YOUNG ADULTS
1. SEDENTARY LIFESTYLES AND LOW PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Young people are moving less—more screen time, desk or remote work, less active commuting.
2. POOR DIETS AND INCREASED CONSUMPTION OF PROCESSED FOODS: Diets high in refined sugars, saturated fats, fast food, sugary drinks, and low in fibre contribute to weight gain and metabolic dysfunction.
3. RISING OBESITY, ESPECIALLY ABDOMINAL OR VISCERAL FAT: Excess body fat, especially around the belly, is strongly linked with insulin resistance. More young people are overweight or obese than in past decades.
4. GENETIC PREDISPOSITION AND FAMILY HISTORY: If one or more parents, close relatives have diabetes, the risk is higher. Genetics often act together with lifestyle.
